Premier SC Ltd was privileged to carry out strategic work on the redevelopment of on one of London’s most iconic and important buildings, the Queen Elizabeth Children’s Hospital in Tower Hamlets, East London.
Contractors Rydon, in a collaboration agreement with Family Mosaic, engaged Ilford-based Premier Security Consultants as part of the new development of 188 new homes, including 24 luxury apartments, on the site of the original Children’s Hospital, which was built in 1872
Premier not only supplied steel, community entrance fire doors but all the staircase balustrade, garden fencing, vent covers (wood and perforated aluminium) as well as the free-standing glass balustrade throughout the entire site.
The project was met with critical acclaim and was Highly Commended at the Evening Standard New Homes Awards 2017. The hospital’s original historic façade on Hackney Road was retained as a permanent reminder of the site’s history.
At its peak, the Queen Elizabeth was the largest teaching hospital in London, an international centre for research into childhood illness, and host to several royal visits, from the sixth child of Queen Victoria, Princess Louise, in 1872, to Queen Elizabeth II in 1977.
And the hospital’s support wasn’t limited to royalty: Charles Dickens was a patron and, in 1885, Oscar Wilde contributed the poem Le Jardin Des Tuileries to a fundraising volume.
